On Monday night, September 9th, 2024, the New York Yankees and their fans held a moment of silence for a fallen police officer from Dutchess County.

East Fishkill Police Officers Dies in the Line of Duty

On December 18th, 2024, Officer Daniel DiDato of the East Fishkill Police Department was on his way to interview a victim of a possible fatal accident.

While traveling on the Taconic State Parkway, Officer DiDato's vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a tree. DiDato died from the injuries he sustained during the crash at the age of 47.

DiDato, who was born in the Bronx, moved up to the Hudson Valley in 1985 where he went on to graduate from John Jay High School. From there, Officer DiDato spent time working for the DEP and then for the East Fishkill Police Department for 19 years.

In his obituary, Daniel DiDato was described as an "integral member of the community" and that he will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the community he worked in.

They also wrote that DiDato was "an avid fan of the New York Rangers and The New York Yankees" which makes what the New York Yankees did earlier this week all the more sweeter.

On Monday, September 9th, 2024, the New York Yankees honored Officer DiDato with a moment of silence during their game against The Kansas City Royals.

DiDato Family Mourns the Death of 2nd Family

Sadly, shortly after the passing of Officer Daniel DiDato, tragedy struck the DiDato family a second time.

In July of 2024, the East Fishkill Police Department shared that Daniel's older brother, Detective Mark DiDato had passed away. The retired detective had worked with the East Fishkill Police Department for 21 years.

After retiring, Detective DiDato took on the role of School Safety Officer at John Jay High School where he graduated back in 1991.
