New Upgraded Service Area on Thruway Now Open

The New York State Thruway has announced they have reopened the newly upgraded service area along the thruway in Ulster County, NY offering guests new food options and much more.

If you spend any time driving on the northbound side of the New York State Thruway between exit 20 Saugerties - Woodstock and exit 21 and Catskill - Cairo you already know that the Malden Service area has been closed for renovations for what feels like forever. The Ulster County service area closed a while back to allow the location to undergo some much-needed upgrades which are part of the New York State Thruway Authorities (NYSTA) $450 million private investment to redevelop and modernize all 27 Thruway service areas.

Ulster County Service Area Reopens

The NYSTA proudly announced that the newly renovated Malden Service Area located on I-87 northbound between Exit 20 and Exit 21 in Ulster County is now open. Northbound Thruway travelers will now have access to a new Burger King, Dunkin’ drive-thru, Applegreen convenience store, Taste NY food and drink products, and will soon be the home to a new Popeyes restaurant. Frank G. Hoare, the Thruway Authority Executive Director had this to say about the service area upgrades,

"The opening of the Malden Service Area marks another milestone in the service area redevelopment project along the I-87 corridor. Motorists traveling on I-87 northbound for the Autumn tourism season and upcoming holidays can now enjoy new amenities and restaurant options at all the reopened locations. The Thruway Authority is committed to maintaining a safe and reliable roadway offering motorists a modernized transportation system and infrastructure investments to serve customers for decades to come."

All Thruway Services Areas are Open

The Malden service area is the 23rd to open, joining the recently upgraded service areas in Sloatsburg and Ramapo, NY. This marks the completion of upgrades to all of the I-87 northbound service areas. Each location underwent extensive renovations, including adding new food options, including Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, and Panda Express, new restrooms, nursing areas, and much more.
