Tragic Suicide at the Ulster County Jail
A gunshot victim at the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center in Kingston, New York has been ruled a suicide according to police.
A tragedy unfolded on Thursday at the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center in Kingston when an employee who had worked for the sheriff's office for more than 20 years took his own life.
Ulster County Sheriff's Employee Commits Suicide
At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 8th employees at the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center discovered a male employee who had apparently suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the complex. When he was discovered, employees and members of the Sheriff's Office attempted to provide emergency medical aid to the man. First responders had the man transported to the Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston to receive treatment.
Once at the hospital medical staff attempted to reverse the damage done by the gunshot but unfortunately, their life-saving efforts failed and the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The death has been ruled a suicide according to Ulster County Sheriff Juan Figueroa. The employee's name has not been released yet, but according to Hudson Valley One, he worked for the Sheriff's office for more than 20 years.
Ulster County Mourns Loss
As news of the tragic events spread throughout the law enforcement community, many area departments shared condolences on social media including the City of Kingston Police Department saying,
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office."
