Teens Allegedly Set Fire At Popular Park in Ulster County
Two 13-year-old teenagers have been arrested after they allegedly tried to set fire to a large pavilion structure at a park in Ulster County, NY.
According to the Saugerties Police Department back on Monday, September 23, 2024, just after 5 p.m., they were called to respond to a reported structure fire at the Cantine Memorial Field Complex in Saugerties, New York.

According to reports members of the the Malden-West Camp Fire Department and the Saugerties Police Department (SPD) were both called to respond to a call that came in at 5:12 p.m., which stated that one of the large pavilions at the Cantine Memorial Field Complex located on Pavilion St, in Saugerties, NY was on fire. As first responders arrived on the scene the Malden-West Camp Fire Department was able to quickly extinguish the fire which started along the eastern side of the pavilion, saving it from extensive damage.
Fire in Saugerties Intentionally Set?
Once the fire was extinguished SPD began an investigation to try and determine the cause and its origin. The investigation took some time but according to Crime Watch, it did reveal that a 13-year-old female and a 13-year-old male were allegedly responsible for starting the fire. SPD arrested each of the teenagers and charged them with two felonies including Arson in the 3rd Degree and Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree.

Police didn't reveal the teen's identities or say how or why the juveniles started the fire but did say that each of them was released to a parent with an appearance ticket to appear at Ulster County Probation’s Intake Unit at a later date.
