There are certain things we look forward to every Summer. Some of them are things we have done year after year for as long as we can remember: going to the Dutchess County Fair, checking out a race at the Orange County Fair Speedway, and, one of my favorites, heading to the Painted Pony Championship Rodeo.

Growing up, my family traveled during the summer because my father was serving in the Army. You traveled in the summer so that you didn't miss school. Summer travel meant getting to go to events, the rodeo was always my favorite.

I was a grown married woman before I went to the Painted Pony Championship Rodeo in Lake Luzerne, New York. My first trip there was my first time back to a rodeo since I was a teenager.

I remember getting there with a group of friends and thinking this is just like the ones my parents always took us to in our travels through the Midwest every summer. The grandstands, the excitement, and all the horses.

Whether you have been to a rodeo in the past or this will be your first trip, make sure you set aside time this Summer to see what the fun is all about at the Painted Pony, which will be opening for the season on July 4th Weekend.
