Multiple towns in the Hudson Valley have announced they will be enforcing a two-day Halloween curfew in 2024.

Over the last couple of years residents, along with Hudson Valley law enforcement have reported a rise in "issues" that pop up in select towns around and on Halloween night. In an attempt to lessen the problems, some towns have put a curfew in place to protect the residents and their property. Curfews are not only for Halloween night but the day before as well in many towns.

Hudson Valley Towns With a Halloween Curfew 2024

Halloween arrives in the Hudson Valley on Thursday, October 31st this year and any parent that's thinking they might allow their teenager (under 18) to go out without a guardian or supervision might want to make sure it's allowed in the town they live in.

We've searched the Halloween curfew laws in multiple towns/cities/villages across the Hudson Valley and have discovered that at least five of them have a curfew code in effect for Halloween 2024. Most of the curfews read the same (full details below) saying that anyone under the age of 18 is prohibited from congregating, strolling, or wandering on any public streets roads, or highways.

Here are the five areas that will have a Halloween curfew in 2024:

Town of Fishkill, NY

A curfew will be in effect on Wednesday, October 30th, 31st, and November 1, 2024, and will be enforced from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. according to the town's website. While in effect it will prohibit any minor (any person under the age of 18 years) from congregating, strolling, wandering, playing, or operating a motor vehicle in, about, or upon any public park, public area, street, road, or highway in the town unless:

• They are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
• The minor is on an emergency.
• They are conducting business at the request of an employer and must have a
statement in writing verifying this.
• They are involved in adult-supervised church, school, or civic events, and again, must
have a written statement verifying this.

The curfew exceptions above are similar in many of the towns that have a curfew this year including:

City of Kingston, NY

The city of Kingston's curfew makes it unlawful for any child under the age of 16 years of age to loiter or be on the streets after 10:00 p.m. and before 6:00 a.m. unless the child is accompanied by their parents or guardian according to city code.

Town of Wappinger, NY

The curfew will run from 9 p.m. through 4 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30th, and Thursday, October 31st making it "unlawful for any minor (under 18) to congregate, loiter, wander, remain or play in or upon any public place, public park, public area, street, road or highway in the Town" according to the town. The addition of the 'code" in Wappingers was put in place to "control various activities of minors under the age of 18 on Halloween and the day before Halloween."

Middletown, New York

The curfew in Middletown runs a day longer than any other area as it starts on Tuesday, October 29th through Friday, November 1st between the hours of 9:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m. each day. The curfew will make it unlawful for any person under the age of 18 years to be in any public place including, any street, alley, highway, or another public thoroughfare, sidewalk, park, playground, store, shop, restaurant, tavern, café theater, shopping center and any other place devoted to amusement or open to the general public or on private property other than such minor's home or usual place of abode, within the City of Middletown, New York, either on foot or in a vehicle according to the city's website.

The curfew in the village of Woodbury will be in effect on Wednesday, October 30th, and Thursday, October 31st between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. During that time it will be unlawful for any minor (under 18) to remain idle, wander, stroll, or play in any public place, either on foot or to cruise about without a set destination in any vehicle, in, about, or upon any place in the village according to the town. Village officials said the curfew is in place to "protect the residents of the Village of Woodbury, their property, and for the safety and general welfare of the public.
