The pharmacy chain has announced it has begun a trial program giving customers in select New York stores the ability to unlock the locked cabinets holding valuable items throughout stores.

If you are a CVS customer you are well aware that over the last year or so the pharmacy giant has experienced a variety of issues that have frustrated customers across the country. There are long lines at the pharmacy, which is a top complaint at many stores, followed closely by having to push a "call for help" button anytime you would like to buy something that's locked up in a cabinet.

The aisles at some CVS stores look like Fort Knox as more and more valuable items have been secured in locked cabinets to curb shoplifting. Unfortunately, the security measures haven't worked and have frustrated customers leading some to shop elsewhere.

According to the New York Times, CVS has announced the launch of its new CVS Health app that will look to remedy many of the problems customers have been vocal about including giving users the chance to open locked display cabinets to access merchandise.

CVS Offers Customers Ability to Unlock Display Cabinets

The CVS pilot program, which began in August at three New York stores gives new app users who are logged in and on the store's Wi-Fi network with Bluetooth enabled to unlock the cabinets and access items they want to buy.

Tara Burke, a CVS Health spokeswoman, told the The New York Times, that the pilot program "is an example of how we’re applying technology as possible solutions to a common customer complaint. Customers like the convenience of being able to open the cases and not having to wait for a CVS colleague to help if one isn’t immediately available."
