3 Hudson Valley Towns Make 10 Best List For A Getaway in New York
Three Hudson Valley towns have officially been named the best small towns in New York for a perfect getaway.
If you live in the Hudson Valley you already know that we live in one of the most picturesque places in the country. For many of us, it's why we decided to put down roots in the area and raise our families here, right? Living here does have its challenges like any other part of the country but when all is said and done, we feel like it really is a perfect place to live, but what about vacationing?

If you are lucky enough to have the means to be able to plan a perfect getaway and don't want to travel out of state the folks at Country Living have come up with a list of the 42 best small towns in New York for an "idyllic" getaway. (If you are anything like me and have no idea what "Idyllic" means...LOL, it's defined as "extremely pleasant, simple, and peaceful without any difficulties or dangers" according to the Collins Dictionary.)
In order to come up with its list Country Living weighed numerous factors including each town's landscape, main street, antique shops, museums, hiking trails, available activities, and more.
Pleasant, Simple & Peaceful Getaways in New York
Five Hudson Valley towns have made the top 20 list of the best for a perfect getaway including Saugerties, NY, which grabbed the #17 spot due in large part to its "eclectic antique stores, beloved vintage shops, and lots of quality restaurants." Saugerties is also home to one of the coolest works of art anywhere, Opus 40, making it a great place for a getaway. Rhinebeck landed at #12 mainly because of the amazing main street, lined with specialty shops and great restaurants.
3 Hudson Valley Towns Named Best Places for a Getaway
Woodstock, NY was the first Hudson Valley town to crack the top ten landing at #9 for its music shops, art galleries, food options, unique places to stay overnight, and much more. Woodstock was followed by Lake Placid, NY at #6 and Beacon, NY at #7. If you've spent any time in Beacon you know why it has quickly become a destination for out-of-towners. With a great "walkable" main street, specialty shops, restaurants, and Dia Beacon art museum, Beacon has something for everyone.

New Paltz, NY has officially grabbed the #5 spot on the best getaways list. The quaint Ulster County town climbed into the top five due to various reasons including the Historic Huguenot Street, specialty shops, Water Street, restaurants, and the Mohonk Mountain House.
Five Best Small Towns in New York
Watkins Glen, NY came in at #5 followed by Cooperstown (#4), Corning (#3), Saranac Lake (#2), and Schenectady, New York took the #1 spot. Schenectady landed at #1 due to its main street shopping options, classic architecture, and the Central Park Rose Garden, which features 4,000 rose bushes, and a tiered fountain.
