Right now, it is Spooky Season! The leaves are falling, people are getting their Halloween costumes ready, stores are full of black and orange themed candy, and scary movies are populating TV stations. But as soon as the clock strikes midnight on November 1st, everything transitions to the end-of-year holidays quicker than Mariah Carey can sing "All I Want For Christmas is You!"

But you know what, it's fun! Why not? We got to keep finding enjoyment in every event and holiday activity coming up. Life is too short and the seasons go by way too quickly to fight it off. One of my favorite family traditions from when I was younger was to help volunteer at my parish's Christmas Craft Fair. We'd help set up the tables for vendors and put up all the Christmas decorations the night before, and then of course, got to enjoy the festivities the next day. So, that's why I'm happy to see other crafts fairs popping up this season, I got one here that is wasting no time getting the holiday season started!

The fun-filled neighborhood event will be held at St. Nicholas-on-the Hudson in New Hamburg on Saturday November 2 from10am - 3pm. The fair will feature homemade Italian food, various homemade chili recipes (to-go), creative handmade crafts and holiday items for sale, bake sale, raffle baskets, children's activities and enjoy. Come and enjoy St. Nick's newly renovated church yard.

Before we get to November, we still have plenty of spooking in October to do! Trunk-or-treating - or Halloween Tailgating - is an alternative to trick-or-treating, in which parents and guardians gather their vehicles in one spot, typically a parking lot, open their trunks and give out candy as children walk from car to car. The nice thing about most trunk-or-treats is that they are all mostly BEFORE Halloween, meaning that you can fill up on tons of candy all October long, and then cap it off with the regular door-to-door trick-or-treating on actual Halloween! I see this as an ultimate win!

For those looking to take the family out ahead of Halloween to make the most of Spooky (and Candy) Season, I compiled a list of Dutchess County Trunk or Treats happening. The nice thing about this list is that none of them are happening at the same time, so you can go from one to the other throughout October and get your fill on spooks and sweets.

Spirit Halloween Relaunches Spirit Christmas with 3 New York Locations

Spirit Christmas is a seasonal retail store operated by Spencer Spirit Holdings. A sister brand to Spirit Halloween, the store offers various decorations and costumes for the Christmas season, along with visits from Santa Claus. If you're expecting it to be a spooky kind of Christmas store, don't. It will be a tried and true Christmas store.

At some point, the 1990’s incarnation of the store was discontinued. Spencer Gifts tested the concept themselves after acquiring the Spirit Halloween brand in 1999, operating their own Spirit Christmas stores in 2005 and 2006. In 2024, the store was revived once more, with 10 locations set to open. Below, you can find the full list of locations
