Is New York A Great State For Working Dads?

Less than two months ago we shared the data that came out of research regarding state vs. state rankings for working moms.

Statistics from that study indicated that when looking at the conditions and components that impact working moms across the United States, New York came in just outside the top 10, at number 11. The Empire State came in Number 1 for Best Day Care systems, but dead last for Child Care Costs.

What About Working Dads in New York?

Similarly to what they did when comparing best states for working moms, WalletHub took a look at some key indicators for 'friendliness towards working fathers' across the U.S and DC, with factors like median family income, unemployment rates for dads with young kids, average work day and even life expectancy.

So how'd we do? Slightly lower than the moms rank of 11, numbers for dad landed them at 13 out of 51 which isn't so bad at all.

New York Dads Have it '13th Best' in the US

With a total of 59.32 points as compared to the state of Massachusetts (again at the top) with 79.16 points, New York dads ranked well for balance, care and health, and not so great for economic and social well being. New York came in among the highest for life expectancy, and lowest for average work-day hours.

The WalletHub research brings to light something perhaps not everyone is aware of, how the 'contemporary dad' is no longer solely the 'breadwinner and disciplinarian.'

That’s been especially true in recent years where many fathers have temporarily or permanently switched to working from home and have taken on more childcare duties as a result.
